Platycerium Superbum Staghorn 125mm

Platycerium superbum is a spectacular Australian native fern that creates a truly impressive living feature. Known as the Staghorn Fern, it develops large, dramatic antler-like fertile fronds that cascade gracefully from its distinctive rounded shield fronds, giving it an incredible sculptural appearance.

Perfect for mounting on trees, timber boards or other suitable supports, Staghorns are wonderful for shaded patios, verandahs, ferneries and tropical-style gardens. They thrive in bright, filtered light with good airflow and appreciate regular moisture and humidity, while avoiding constantly wet conditions.

As the plant matures, the shield fronds naturally turn brown and papery. This is completely normal and they should be left in place, as they protect the plant and help collect organic matter.

Tip: Never remove the brown shield fronds from your Staghorn – they’re an important part of the plant. During warm, dry weather, give the root area and mounting material a thorough soak rather than just lightly misting the leaves.
