What's an Army Swiss knife got to do with chocolate?

Yesterday, as I stepped out of Woolworths in Tuncurry with a few groceries in hand, I noticed a sizable Winnebago parked beside my car. A family of seven—two parents and five young children—were gathered around, each child adorable and full of energy. We exchanged warm smiles, and I observed them studying a map, appearing a bit uncertain.

The mother approached me and, in limited English, asked for help locating a laundromat. I informed her of one on the main street in Tuncurry but was unsure of its operating hours, given it was around 4:45 PM. After calling and reaching only voicemail, I suggested they try Forster Laundrette at 12 Head Street, Forster. I contacted them, and fortunately, the manager was still present and willing to wait for the family to arrive.

As we wrapped up our conversation, one of the little children handed me what I initially thought was a Swiss Army knife. The mother explained it was a chocolate—a token of gratitude for my assistance. I was deeply touched by this gesture. Learning they were a Swiss family journeying from Adelaide to Brisbane over six months, providing their children with invaluable life experiences and natural schooling, warmed my heart.

This encounter reminded me of the beauty of human connection and the spirit of helping without expecting anything in return. It's moments like these that make me proud to be part of a community where kindness transcends language barriers.
