Every December, while the world buzzes with Christmas excitement, Santa quietly begins one of his most important seasonal rituals — checking on his gardens. Yes, even the North Pole has a garden… though it’s a little frostier than ours in Tuncurry!
But rumour has it that Santa LOVES to sneak away for a quick visit to Lumpy’s Nursery & Landscape Yard — and who could blame him? Even the jolliest man on earth needs a break from toy production, sleigh polishing and reindeer wrangling.
Here’s what Santa gets up to when he pops by our nursery:
🎄 1. Santa’s Favourite Plants Aren’t Just Christmas Bushes
While he adores a good Ceratopetalum, Santa has a surprisingly soft spot for anything bright, blooming and cheerful.
He says colourful flowers help him reset after long nights reading letters and checking the Naughty & Nice List.
His favourites this season?

• Happy Convolvulus varieties
• Hardy Tibouchinas
• Anything that reminds him of sunshine (after all… the North Pole is a bit bleak!)
🧑🎄 2. Mrs Claus Loves Our Gift Shop
Santa’s not the only one who sneaks out of the workshop.
Mrs Claus is obsessed with:
• Christmas décor
• Australian-themed ornaments
• Candles and soaps (for keeping the elves fresh!)
• Garden gnomes — especially the slightly mischievous ones
She says our gift shop has “everything she needs to keep Christmas running smoothly with style.”
🌱 3. The Reindeer Won’t Leave Without a Snack
Did you know reindeer love a wander through our landscaped car park?
The meandering pathways are perfect for a quick trot, and Dasher once tried to eat a pot of Alternanthera Little Ruby (don’t worry — he was stopped in time!).
Comet is partial to the herbs section, while Rudolph… well… he’s distracted by anything shiny.
🎁 4. Santa Shops Local — and You Can Too
Santa believes in supporting small businesses, and Lumpy’s is one of his favourites.
Between the plants, pots, garden décor, giftware, and vouchers (his go-to stocking stuffer), he always leaves with a sleigh full of goodies.
And he insists that “a locally purchased gift comes wrapped in extra Christmas spirit.”
