đż Glossy green foliage â tidy and dense
đŹïž Toughness â tolerates wind, salt, and dry conditions
đ± Compact form â grows approximately 2m tall and 1m wide
đł Perfect for â hedging, screening, borders, feature planting or pots
Whether youâve got a formal garden or a coastal escape, this little legend fits in beautifully and requires very little fuss.
đŒ Lumpy & Jen SayâŠ
A funny little ditty to honour the Dugald dynasty:
Jen said, âThis Dugaldâs just divine,
With flowers red like fancy wine.â
Lumpy grinned and gave a cheer,
âBest damn hedge plant of the year!â
âScreen it, pot it, trim it neat,
Little Dugald canât be beat!â
Planting & Care Tips
đ Position:
Plant in full sun to part shade. It loves a bright spot but will still perform in slightly less light.
đ± Soil Type:
Free-draining soil is key. Little Dugald doesnât enjoy soggy feet, so improve drainage if planting in clay or heavy soils.
đż Planting Tips:
-
Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot but no deeper.
-
Backfill with a blend of quality garden mix and native soil.
-
Water in well with a seaweed tonic to help root development.
đ§Ș Fertiliser:
Use a low-phosphorus fertiliser (suitable for natives). Slow-release types in early spring and mid-summer will keep it lush and flowering beautifully.
âïž Pruning:
Lightly prune after flowering to maintain shape or clip into a more formal hedge. It responds well to a haircut and will thicken up nicely.
Lumpyâs Tip:
đĄ Donât forget: itâs great in pots too! Use a premium potting mix and choose a sunny, sheltered spot for best performance. Great for entrances or as a statement near the outdoor dining area.
