🌿 Garden Releaf – Growing Health, Happiness & Community

At Lumpy’s, we believe gardening isn’t just about plants—it’s about people. That’s exactly why we’re proud to support Garden Releaf Australia, a heart-warming initiative that encourages Australians to discover the health and wellbeing benefits of spending time in the garden.

🌱 Where It All Began – From the UK to Australia

The idea of gardening as a tool for community connection and personal wellbeing has deep roots—literally. In the UK, allotments and community gardens have been a part of life for over 200 years. Small plots of land were provided for families to grow vegetables, flowers, and medicinal herbs, helping people stay active, connected, and nourished.

Over time, these spaces became more than food gardens—they became green sanctuaries. Organisations like the National Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens worked to connect people to nature, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen communities.

This movement inspired garden lovers in Australia. In 1977, Melbourne saw its first official community garden. Since then, the idea has blossomed, and Garden Centres of Australia created Garden Releaf—a feel-good, annual event to help people experience those same benefits at home, in schools, and across our communities.

đź’š Why Garden Releaf Matters

Life can be busy, noisy, and sometimes stressful. Gardening offers a pause—a chance to slow down, breathe, and connect with something real. Studies have shown that time spent in the garden can:

  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Improve physical health through gentle activity
  • Boost mood by releasing endorphins
  • Create social connections through shared gardening experiences
And best of all? You don’t need a big backyard—pots on a balcony, a sunny windowsill, or a small patch in your yard can make all the difference.

🌻 How We’re Celebrating at Lumpy’s

This year, our Garden Releaf weekend will be packed with activities, special guests, and plenty of garden inspiration. We’ll also be raising funds for our chosen organisation—NSW SES Forster Pacific Palms Unit—in appreciation of the incredible help and protection they provide, especially during floods.

So come along on Saturday 30 & Sunday 31 August 2025, explore, have fun, and take home a little green joy. Whether you’re planting your first flower or adding to a thriving garden, you’ll be nurturing something far greater than plants—you’ll be growing health, happiness, and community.

We can't wait to see you! đź’š
